Daud Olatunji

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the sudden passing of Sir Olaniyi Olaleye Babalola Ijalaiye, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State.

Ijalaiye, aged 66, died on August 19, 2024, after reportedly slumping in his hotel room following a meeting in Abuja.

The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the INEC community and beyond, as he was widely respected for his commitment to transparent and credible electoral processes in Ogun State.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that his passing marks the end of a distinguished career in public service, where he was known for his integrity, wisdom, and dedication.

INEC, in a statement released by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity (VEP) Department, Ologbosere, expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

The statement read “Sir Olaniyi Olaleye Babalola Ijalaiye was not just a leader but a pillar of wisdom and dedication.

“His absence will be profoundly felt by the entire INEC Ogun family and all those whose lives he touched,” the statement read.

The late REC is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, who, along with numerous loved ones, are mourning the loss of a man they describe as a loving and devoted patriarch.

His memory, they say, will remain a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that the  passing of Sir Ijalaiye leaves a void not only in INEC but also in the broader community where his contributions to electoral integrity will be remembered for years to come.
