The Kogi State government has commenced the identification and registration of members of Motorcycle Operators and Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria to curb insecurity in the state.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday, the Kogi State Commissioner for transportation, Atuluku Victor Levi,
asserted that the overriding importance of the exercise is to get accurate number of members of the union and possibly checkmate infiltration by criminal elements in Kogi State.

“The data capturing will enable government to provide welfare packages, develop a comprehensive information base that will help to checkmate infiltration of criminal elements into Kogi State,” he said.

He admonished all the union members to come forth for the registration exercise, adding that only Motorcycle Operators Union and Tricycle Owners Association members are recognized by the state government.

According to him, “It is only the recognized unions officials that are authorized, while others not known by government will be penalized by law. Successful member will be provided with identification cards with immediate effect.

“It is a punishable offense across the 21 Local Government Area of Kogi State for any tricycle or motorcycle rider not to have identification number.”
