Internal Crisis: Why I Dumped PDP – Jandor

The 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially resigned from the party, citing internal crisis, anti-party activities, and lack of discipline among the leadership.

Jandor, who made the announcement on Monday at a media briefing in Ikeja, Lagos, accused key PDP figures, including former Deputy National Chairman Olabode George, of working against the party’s interests during the 2023 elections.

He stated that the leadership’s failure to address these issues prompted his decision to leave.

Addressing journalists, Adediran said, “I stand before you today with a heavy heart but a clear conscience. We have dedicated ourselves to the ideals of democracy, good governance, and the pursuit of a better Lagos.

However, it has become evident that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, both at the state and national levels, has failed to uphold these principles.”

He lamented that despite running a campaign focused on transformation and development, internal betrayals within the PDP derailed his efforts and disillusioned many supporters.

Jandor specifically accused Olabode George of publicly backing another party’s governorship candidate just days before the 2023 election while still serving as a PDP leader.

“A few days to the election, the supposed leader of the party in Lagos State, Olabode George, who had earlier publicly campaigned against the presidential candidate of the PDP, openly declared support for the gubernatorial candidate of another party and advised Lagosians not to vote for the PDP,” he alleged.”

According to him, despite filing an official complaint with the PDP’s national leadership, no sanctions were imposed on those involved in anti-party activities. Instead, George was reportedly rewarded with a position as Vice Chairman of the party’s disciplinary committee.

“We waited this long to see if there would be any respite, but what we see at the top is that the same set of leaders who worked against the party are now the ones holding key positions,” Jandor said.

While he did not disclose his next political move, Jandor assured Lagosians that his commitment to their welfare remains strong.

“Our commitment to the people of Lagos remains unwavering. We will continue to advocate for policies and initiatives that will uplift our state, regardless of our political affiliation,” he said, adding that consultations were ongoing to determine his next course of action.

Reacting to Jandor’s allegations, Olabode George dismissed him as an “undignified fellow” and denied being part of any disciplinary committee.

“I would not respond to him. He is a boy, and my children are not his age mates,” George said.

“He came to the party, he didn’t come to the party, that is his problem. He is the one who knows the lies he has been telling about me.”

George further stated that those who introduced Jandor into the PDP should be ashamed, as he did not live up to expectations.

“It is good riddance to bad rubbish. I don’t want to reply to him, but just to say he is an undignified fellow. I wish him the best of luck,” he said.
