The Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday, declared Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun winner of the Saturday election amidst protest, anger and intrigues .
The atmosphere was tensed shortly before the returning officer for the 2023 governorship election in the state, Prof. Kayode Adebowale declared Abiodun winner as the People’s Democratic Party called for rerun due to the huge number of cancelled votes according to the electoral act as amended .
The returning officer ,inspire the observation, went ahead and made the declaration .
Abiodun , the candidate of the All Progressives candidate, according to the INEC polled 276,298 votes to defeat his arch rival, the PDP candidate ,Oladipupo Adebutu polled 262,383 votes .
Not less than 12 political parties contested against the re election of Abiodun in the state .
PLATFORM TIMES observed that it took the commission hours to make public the results from Sagamu local government won by the PDP.
The journalists and others who were at the state collation centre were stranded for hours waiting for Sagamu collation officer, Oluwagboyega Omoseni who suddenly disappeared from the centre without any notice with the results .
The collation officer however surfaced almost three hours after and presented the figures .
While explaining why he disappeared from the centre, the officer said his attention was called to some votes that had been initially cancelled which had been uploaded into the IREV before the thugs stormed some polling units and distrupted the election process in Sagamu .
He however said about 15 polling units were cancelled due to violence and distruption of election process .
The officer said PDP which polled 17025 votes defeated APC which garnered 13128 votes
Shortly before Abiodun was declares, Adebowale disclosed that overall registered Votes were 2,688305 while accredited voters were 666,406.
He also said that Valid votes were 645,133 while rejected votes were 18,835 and votes cast were 663968.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the PDP is battle ready to wrestle the power from Abiodun who narrowly won in a controversial manner .
The PDP said it had sent a petition to the national chairman of the commission ,Mahmood Yakubu asking him to review the process according to the electoral act .
Some political analysts who spoke with PLATFORM TIMES expressed mixed feelings over the manner the returning officer treated the issues.
While most of them were of the belief that ,he ought to have followed the electoral act and halt the process to know whether a rerun would be conducted or not .
PLATFORM TIMES could not establish the allegation of bribery of some officials of the commission ahead of the declaration .
Meanwhile, the Yewa-Awori people have shattered the ambition of another candidate from the region to become the next governor .
The African Democratic Congress governorship candidate ,Biyi Otegbeye had been projected to get chunk votes from his region while Ogun central was also expected to help the ambition with votes .
The party ,despite the heavy involvement of former Governor of the state ,Ibikunle Amosun scores less than 100,000 unlike the two major parties which scores above 200,000 votes .
Three parties had been projected for victory ,APC ,PDP and ADC .
While APC emerged winner ,PDP came second and ADC came third with 94,000 votes .
