A globally recognized researcher and Babcock University scholar, Dr. Adetayo Adebowale, has urged the Nigerian government and private sector to invest deliberately in research and technological infrastructure, saying the nation has all it takes to become a global technology powerhouse.
Dr. Adebowale, who was recently named among the world’s top 2% of scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier for the second consecutive year, said Nigeria’s youthful population, growing internet penetration, and innovative startups offer a fertile foundation for a tech-driven economy—if properly harnessed through research and innovation.
“Any nation aspiring to make a global impact must be ready to strengthen its technological infrastructure,” he said in an interview .
“If Nigeria prioritizes and funds impactful research aimed at national development—beyond seeing it as a mere promotion requirement—it will only be a matter of time before we take our rightful place among global leaders in science and innovation.”
The Babcock University faculty member emphasized that sustained investment, discipline, and perseverance are essential to producing groundbreaking research that can drive national transformation.
“Great research demands diligence, consistency, and resilience,” he noted. “We must avoid procrastination and remain intentional about making incremental progress every day.”
Reflecting on his global recognition, Dr. Adebowale described the honour as a humbling reminder of God’s grace and a validation of years of rigorous research, mentorship, and innovation.
“This recognition is both an honour and a reminder to continue advancing impactful research that addresses real-world challenges,” he said. “It inspires me to represent Babcock University and Nigeria globally with excellence, integrity, and purpose.”
He added that such international recognition extends beyond personal achievement, enhancing institutional credibility and fostering global collaboration.
“It expands Babcock University’s visibility and academic standing internationally,” he said. “It also affirms that Nigeria can produce homegrown researchers of global relevance.”
A product of Babcock University, Dr. Adebowale obtained both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Information Resources Management from the institution in 2012 and 2016, respectively. He has authored over 92 scholarly publications with more than 1,000 citations to his credit.
His research focuses on the intersection of technology, information management, and social impact, exploring how emerging technologies can transform libraries and knowledge systems.
Dr. Adebowale is also an active member of several professional bodies, including the Association of Commonwealth Universities (Ambassador, Africa Region), the West African Research and Innovation Management Association, and the Association of Seventh-day Adventist Librarians.
He stressed that his achievements reflect Babcock University’s broader vision of promoting research excellence and global competitiveness.
