The Ipokia Local Government Youth Forum (IPYF) has petitioned the 9th Legislative Council of Ipokia Local Government, urging an immediate probe into alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office by the previous administration led by Hon. Wasiu Agbetokun.
The youths in a petition jointly signed by the forum’s Chairman, Imoleayo Mawutin Deji and the General Secretary, Sulaimon Olusegun Adeyemi, addressed to the council, accused the former administration of engaging in unauthorized sales of government properties, nepotism in employment opportunities, misappropriation of public funds, and abuse of power.
They demanded a transparent investigation to restore public trust and ensure accountability.
Some of the key allegations highlighted in the petition,outlined several allegations,which they said they require urgent legislative attention.
The youths alleged the sale of essential local government machinery, including a grader, backhoe loader, drum roller, and a Mikano generator, without due process. These assets, they argued, were critical for maintaining rural roads but were disposed of without replacements or proper accountability.
The youths claimed that employment opportunities intended for Ipokia indigenes were sold to the highest bidders, often to non-indigenes, depriving qualified local candidates and exacerbating unemployment.
The petition also accused the Agbetokun-led administration of misusing funds allocated for the development and welfare of the local government, leaving residents in worsening poverty and hardship.
Reports of highhandedness and maladministration during the tenure allegedly created impasses between the council and local communities, eroding public trust in governance.
The IPYF, led by its Chairman, Imoleayo Mawutin Deji, and General Secretary, Sulaimon Olusegun Adeyemi, called on the Legislative Council under Hon. Akeem Adeyanju to launch an expedited investigation.
They urged the council to make the findings public within two weeks, stressing the need for accountability and transparency.
โFailure to act within the stipulated timeframe will compel us to escalate the matter to appropriate financial crime agencies for a full-scale investigation and prosecution,โ the petition read.
The forum emphasized its commitment to ensuring justice and restoring trust in local governance.
โReports of misuse of authority and office during the last administration were also recorded which brought about maladministration and initiated an impasse between the council and our localities, which negatively impacted governance and public trust.
โTo this end, the Ipokia Local Government Youth Forum (IPYF) demands that the Legislative Council commence a comprehensive probe into the above subject matters within two weeks of receiving this petition.
โThe findings of the investigation must be made public to ensure accountability, and transparency and to further substantiate the integrity of this present administration.
โImperatively, failure to act within the stipulated time frame will compel us to escalate the matter to appropriate financial crime organizations for a full-scale investigation and prosecution where necessary.โ
As of press time, the leadership of the 9th Legislative Council had yet to respond to the petition.
