Israel has firmly denied any involvement in the helicopter crash that tragically claimed the lives of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other senior officials on Sunday.
The crash, which occurred in mountainous terrain during adverse weather conditions, has ignited widespread speculation and accusations on social media.
Despite the absence of an official cause for the crash, accusations have surfaced, particularly targeting Israel, which has been a long-standing regional adversary of Iran.
However, Iran itself has not made any official accusations against Israel.
This incident unfolds amidst already heightened tensions between the two nations, exacerbated by ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon, where Iran supports militant groups Hamas and Hezbollah against Israel.
Adding fuel to the speculation is the fact that the helicopter was returning from Azerbaijan, a country considered an ally of Israel.
This has led to further conspiracy theories about Israel’s involvement.
In response to these allegations, an unnamed Israeli government source categorically denied any involvement, telling Reuters, “It wasn’t us.”
The crash has further strained the already fraught relationship between Iran and Israel.
Recently, the two nations have engaged in direct confrontations, including an incident on April 1 when Israel struck an Iranian diplomatic annex in Damascus, resulting in the death of senior IRGC figures, including Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi.
Subsequently, Israel conducted low-level strikes on Iran, and the two nations engaged in indirect talks mediated by the United States in Oman over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Iran has launched an investigation into the helicopter crash.
