A commander of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP), has been confirmed dead, three days after being bitten by a snake in Borno state.
The commander, who was identified as Kiriku, by a counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, explained that the deceased was bitten in an ISWAP hideout in Damboa LGA of Borno.
According to him, Kiriku was attacked by the snake on Tuesday, and died on Friday, adding that the deceased was unable to receive medical treatment, which later resulted in his death.
Kiriku was said to have conducted operations within the Jiddari area of Chiralia, in Timbuktu triangle, which is a stronghold for Bolo Haram and SWAP.
The Timbuktu triangle however spans across four LGAs in Borno, Damboa, Jere, Kaga, and Konduga as well as Gujba LGA in Yobe state.
Kiriku was known for leading numerous attacks and ambushes against troops belonging to Operation Hadin Kai in Borno.
