Ize-Iyamu Announces Candidacy for Edo Governorship, Alleges Sabotage By APC Governors In 2020

In a significant development on Wednesday, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu officially declared his intention to vie for the Edo State governorship on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform in the upcoming election next year. Notably, Ize-Iyamu was the APC’s candidate in the 2020 election.

Addressing members of the APC’s state executive at the party secretariat, Ize-Iyamu asserted that the party suffered sabotage from its leaders outside the state during the previous election.

Despite this setback, he insisted that the APC must emerge victorious this time, emphasizing his candidacy as the party’s best choice.

During the meeting, Ize-Iyamu praised the leadership qualities of former governor, now senator, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

He highlighted Oshiomhole as the only National Chairman under whose tenure the party provided financial support for candidates during elections.

The aspirant also commended the party’s leadership for maintaining unity despite being in opposition in the state.

Looking ahead to the critical upcoming year, Ize-Iyamu stressed the significance of winning the governorship election scheduled for September, with the new governor set to be sworn in by November.

He urged the party to make every effort to secure victory, acknowledging the dedication and commitment of its members.

Reflecting on the past election, Ize-Iyamu attributed the loss not to a lack of party presence or the unpopularity of his candidacy but rather to the actions of APC leaders outside the state who worked against the party’s interests.

He revealed an incident where an APC governor intended to provide funds to the deputy governor but later declared it a mistake.

In conclusion, Ize-Iyamu expressed confidence that the upcoming election would be different, asserting, “By the grace of God, affliction will not rise in this election. We will win.”

The declaration sets the stage for a competitive political landscape in Edo State as the APC gears up for the 2023 governorship race.
