A chilling incident unfolded in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos State as Samuel Adeniyi, a security guard, was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre following allegations of brutally striking his girlfriend, Morolake Sunday, in the head with a sledgehammer.

The tragic incident led to her demise, and the suspect now faces charges of murder.

Magistrate Patrick Nwaka of the Yaba Magistrate’s Court made the decision to remand the 33-year-old Adeniyi after he appeared in court facing a single count of murder.

The court heard from the police prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, that the harrowing event took place on August 10, 2023, at No. 33, Audu Ekpa Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State.

During proceedings, it was disclosed that the defendant had asserted that his girlfriend was unfaithful to him and had not satisfied him sexually.

On the fateful day, the deceased, who worked as a nanny, left the child she was caring for to meet with another man, claiming it was to purchase recharge cards.

Adeniyi allegedly waited for her for hours before a heated argument erupted when she returned, leading to a violent altercation that unintentionally resulted in the fatal blow to her head with a sledgehammer.
