Operatives of the Jigawa State Police Command have arrested a 30-year-old man named Aminu Bala over a suspected case of defrauding the public with fake US dollars.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed this in a statement issued to DAILY POST.

He said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after a complainant, Alhaji Sani Muhammad from Kano State, reported a case of fraud at Kiyawa Divisional Police Headquarters.

Muhammad reportedly complained that an unknown individual at Nafara village, Birnin Kudu LGA, deceived him and collected the sum of two million naira in cash under the false pretence of exchanging it for dollars.

DSP Adam said that upon receiving the report, the Rapid Response Team attached to the division promptly initiated an investigation, visiting the scene and conducting a thorough inquiry. In the end, Aminu Bala of Tambuwal LGA, Sokoto State, was arrested.

Items found in the suspect’s possession include a small box containing 321 pieces of counterfeit 100 US dollar notes, a red boxer motorcycle with registration number KSF 538 QJ and cash worth N59,820.

The suspect disclosed that both the motorcycle and the money he was carrying were obtained from a victim, Abdulrauf Sulaiman of Kwatai village, Birnin Kudu LGA, who had also been tricked.

The police spokesperson said the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence allegedly against him and will be charged in court for prosecution.
