…Ex-minister says Nigerians now demand Jonathan’s return
… PDP Confident Of Reclaiming Aso Rock After Decade In Oppositio
Daud Olatunji
Former Minister of Information and Orientation, Prof. Jerry Gana, has declared that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Gana, who spoke with journalists shortly after the PDP congress in Minna, Niger State, at the weekend, said Nigerians were already clamouring for Jonathan’s return, insisting that he would defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the polls.
“In 2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President ruled for eight years, and now another has ruled for two years,” Gana said.
“Today, Nigerians have seen the difference, and the difference is very clear. They are now asking us to bring back our friend, former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“I can confirm that he will contest the 2027 presidential election as PDP candidate, and we should be prepared to vote for him to return as President again.”
Jonathan, who was defeated by then All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, in 2015, became the first sitting Nigerian President to lose an election. His loss ended PDP’s 16-year dominance at the centre.
Since then, the opposition party has been plagued with internal wrangling and leadership tussles while struggling to reclaim power from the ruling APC.
Gana, however, expressed confidence that with Jonathan on the ballot, the PDP would return to Aso Rock after a decade in the opposition
