President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday ordered the deployment of over 5,000 Closed-Circuit Television cameras across Plateau State as part of measures to curb insecurity following the recent deadly attacks in Jos.
The President gave the directive during a visit to Jos, the state capital, in response to the violence that left at least 28 persons dead and several others injured.
Tinubu said the installation of the surveillance cameras would strengthen security operations, enhance intelligence gathering and help prevent future attacks across the state.
He also directed security chiefs to immediately go after those responsible for the killings, insisting that the perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice.
The President, who expressed grief over the incident, said his visit was not only to sympathise with victims and their families but also to ensure that lasting peace returns to the state.
He said, “No amount of mourning can bring back the dead. We were elected to ensure peace, stability and prosperity, not to create widows and widowers. These killings must not happen again.”
Tinubu stressed the need for residents and leaders in the state to embrace peace and coexistence, noting that Jos was once known for its tranquillity.
Speaking on the initiative, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, disclosed that the Federal Government plans to extend the deployment of surveillance infrastructure to other states of the federation.
The latest directive comes amid renewed concerns over security in Plateau, with stakeholders calling for decisive action to halt the cycle of violence in the state.
