The Ondo State Government has expressed its commitment to ensuring the prosecution of those arrested in connection with the killing of Olorunfemi Temitope, also known as ‘New Cash’
.
New Cash was lynched by a mob for allegedly engaging in money ritual known as Yahoo Plus.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, condemned the recourse to jungle justice by the public based on flimsy excuses or allegations of internet scam, laced with ritual killing.
He emphasized that while the government does not condone criminality in any form, it also does not subscribe to people taking the law into their own hands.
Ademola-Olateju stated, “Government will not condone any form of mob action and hooliganism in the administration of justice in Ondo State.
“It was reported that the quick intervention of law enforcement agents saved the parents of the deceased from suffering the same fate as their son. Sadly, they watched in horror and total helplessness as their son was pummeled to death.”
He further expressed the government’s sadness over the incident and commiserated with the families that lost their loved ones, while praying for the quick recovery of those injured.
The incident occurred after Temitope’s car rammed into six people at Ijoka area of Akure, resulting in the death of two victims.
Witnesses at the scene reported that fetish items were found inside Temitope’s car, which led to the mob attacking him and subsequently attacking his parents who rushed to the scene upon hearing of their son’s mobbing.
The State Police Command confirmed the arrest of two suspects alleged to be involved in the mob justice.
Police spokesman, SP Funmilayo Odunlami Omisanya, stated that one of the suspects allegedly masterminded the burning of Temitope’s car, and both suspects will be prosecuted for murder and arson.
