Following  the recent abduction of over 200 schoolchildren in the Kuriga community of Kaduna State, the Kaduna State Government has pledged to vigorously prosecute the perpetrators.

The State Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Sule Shu’aibu, affirmed this commitment on Monday during the inaugural and mentoring session for female lawyers in the state.

Last Thursday, terrorists invaded LGEA Primary School, Kuriga (1), in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting numerous pupils and teachers at approximately 8:20 am, immediately after the morning assembly.

The attackers, who shot sporadically, instigated panic among residents, with the headteacher and some staff members reportedly among the victims.

Recent updates confirm that 280 students, both male and female, aged between 5 and 10, were kidnapped, while approximately 27 managed to escape and have since reunited with their parents.

During the mentoring program organized by the State Chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF), the State’s Chief Law Officer, Sule Shu’aibu, assured swift prosecution once the abductors are apprehended.

While emphasizing the government’s dedication to improving the living standards of women and children in the state, the Commissioner highlighted measures aimed at addressing their plight.

These include expeditious dispensation of justice in cases involving women and the domestication of the Child Rights Act.

Dr. Hadiza Ali, the state lead of the NBA Women Forum, explained that the program’s objective was to sensitize women on the fundamental aspects of the legal profession and mentor them toward self-reliance.

Mrs. Ali also called on the state to allocate funds to the judiciary to facilitate prompt dispensation of justice.
