Dangote Refinery Commences Production Of Diesel, Aviation Fuel

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, recognized as the world’s largest single-train refinery, has officially initiated the production of diesel and aviation fuel.

Commencing operations in the early hours of Friday, the milestone follows the reception of its sixth one million barrels of crude cargo, crucial for kickstarting production.

A statement confirming the commencement was issued by Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and Nigerians for their unwavering support.

Dangote assured that the refined products would hit the market within the month, pending regulatory approvals.

He specifically thanked President Tinubu for his visionary leadership and support, emphasizing the significant impact of his intervention in overcoming obstacles.

A total of six million barrels of crude had been supplied to the refinery, marking a series of vital shipments.

The refinery, inaugurated in May 2023 with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is set to contribute substantially to Nigeria’s energy landscape.

Akin Omole, Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, highlighted that the receipt of six million barrels of crude would facilitate the initial run of the refinery, initiating the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), followed by Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The refinery’s capacity to load 2,900 trucks daily at its gantries and adherence to Euro V specifications are expected to make it a game-changer for Nigeria’s energy sector.
