The Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has summoned key stakeholders in the flour and baking industries.
The Commission has called upon dealers of flour at the Singer market and the chairman of the Association of Master Bakers & Caterers of Nigeria to explain the recent hike in bread prices.
This action comes in response to numerous complaints from consumers about the increasing cost of bread, despite the stable price of flour in the market.
The Commission, in a letter signed by its Chairman, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, stated that the summons is in line with the provisions of sections 9 and 15 of the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission Law 2008 (as amended).
The Commission emphasized the importance of hearing from both sides to understand the factors contributing to the price hike.
According to the letter, the flour dealers and the executive members of the Association of Master Bakers & Caterers of Nigeria are expected to provide explanations and clarify the situation.
The Commission is utilizing its powers under section 31 of its enabling law to investigate the matter thoroughly.
