The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has taken decisive action against three judges implicated in a forgery case, following the submission of a formal complaint by one Muzdalifa regarding an alleged fraudulent court reversal order.
The complaint led to a thorough investigation by the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee (JPCC), which subsequently referred the case to the police for further inquiry.
After an extensive investigation, the police forwarded their findings to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), whose advice indicated a lack of sufficient evidence to proceed with a prosecution.
In response to the findings, the JSC, during its 79th meeting on February 6, 2025, resolved to lift the suspensions imposed on Bilya Abdullahi, Auwalu Ibrahim Khalil, and Ismaila Garba.
However, Bilya Abdullahi was issued a stern warning to avoid engaging in any future illegal or unethical actions, emphasizing the Commission’s commitment to ensuring accountability within the judiciary.
In a related matter, the JSC also reviewed a disciplinary case against Hudu Idris, a Registrar at the Upper Sharia Court in Gwarzo, and Abba Bala Gwarzo, a casual watchman at the same court.
The two individuals had been accused by Alhaji Sani Bozo Rimin Gado of intimidation and illegal monetary demands.
Following a thorough investigation by the JPCC, both Hudu Idris and Abba Bala Gwarzo admitted to corrupt practices, including receiving a bribe totaling N214,000. In line with its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, the JSC took the following disciplinary actions: Hudu Idris was demoted by one grade level and placed on compulsory retirement, while Abba Bala Gwarzo’s contract appointment was terminated with immediate effect.
In addition to these sanctions, the Kano JSC approved several key managerial appointments within the Kano State Judiciary. Chief Magistrate Hajara Garba Ahmad was appointed as Acting Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice, with Musa Ibrahim Umar appointed as Acting Deputy Chief Registrar (Administration & General Services).
Usman Adam was named Acting Deputy Chief Registrar (Magistracy), while Fatima Garba Yakasai was appointed Acting Deputy Chief Registrar (Legal).
Other appointments included Chief Magistrates Hadiza Rabiu Bello and Zuhura Madaki as Acting Directors of the Judicial Service Commission and Training Department, respectively, and Senior Magistrate Malikatu Mudh Nuraini as Acting Assistant Director of the Training Department.
These appointments were made based on careful consideration of the individuals’ work ethics, track records, and unwavering commitment to upholding the integrity of the judiciary.
The Kano State Judicial Service Commission, under the leadership of Hon. Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring public trust in the justice system.
