The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has arrested the Headmaster of Gaidar Makada Special Primary School, located in Kumbotso Local Government Area, over allegations of illegally selling school property.

The headmaster, whose name has not been disclosed, was reportedly involved in a scheme to profit from the sale of critical school assets, raising concerns about corruption within the educational system.

According to a statement released  by the PCACC spokesperson, Kabir Abba Kabir, the arrest followed a thorough investigation that exposed the disturbing disappearance of essential school items.

These items, including metal fixtures, benches, and furniture, were found to have been removed under suspicious circumstances.

The investigation revealed that these vital assets had been sold without authorization, raising alarms about the potential impact on the students’ learning environment.

“The commission’s investigation uncovered that critical items, including metal fixtures, benches, and furniture, had mysteriously disappeared from the school,” Kabir stated.

“Suspicion fell on the headmaster, whose questionable activities were previously flagged during discussions with the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Chairmen.”

The PCACC’s swift response was prompted by formal complaints received on August 31, 2024, concerning the missing school property.

The commission acted decisively, arresting the headmaster and launching a comprehensive probe into the matter.

The commission’s priority is now to recover the stolen assets and ensure that such incidents do not recur in Kano’s educational institutions.

“The thefts were officially reported today, prompting swift action from the PCACC,” Kabir continued.

“The commission is now focused on recovering the stolen property and ensuring that such corruption does not compromise the integrity of our educational institutions.”

The arrest of the headmaster has sparked outrage among parents and community members, who are demanding strict accountability and transparency in the management of school resources.
