Kano JSC Demotes Court Registrar Over Forgery, Misconduct

The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has demoted a senior court registrar, Adamu Salisu, for forging official signatures and impersonating a commissioner for oaths, in a move aimed at sanitising the state judiciary.

The disciplinary action followed findings from the commission’s 84th meeting held on Friday, where Salisu was found guilty of gross misconduct, including the forgery of a bailiff’s signature and unauthorized signing of affidavits.

According to a statement issued by the commission, Salisu, who served as the registrar in charge of High Court No. 13, admitted to the offences and was subsequently demoted from Grade Level 13 to Grade Level 12.

He was also removed from his post and issued a stern warning against further unethical practices.

The commission stated, “He was also issued a strong warning to desist from any further unethical conduct or influencing others to commit similar acts, failing which stricter sanctions, including criminal prosecution, will be taken against him.”

The JSC said the decision was in line with its responsibility to uphold discipline, integrity, and ethical standards within the judiciary.

In a related development, the commission also demoted a clerical assistant, Yusuf Ayuba, for abandoning his duty post for four months without any justification.

Ayuba, attached to High Court No. 8, Miller Road, was demoted from Grade Level 5 to Grade Level 4 after an investigation by the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee found him guilty of dereliction of duty.

“The sanctions are intended to serve as a deterrent to other staff and curb absenteeism within the judiciary,” the commission noted.

Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, the Kano JSC said it remained committed to enforcing discipline and accountability across all ranks of the judicial service.
