The Special Counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, Mr. Aloy Ejimakor, reportedly collapsed inside Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that Ejimakor was immediately rushed to the Kuje Medical Centre, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
The development was confirmed on Saturday by one of Kanu’s lawyers, Maxwell Opara, who disclosed that he personally visited the ailing counsel at the prison clinic.
Opara said, “Yes, I went to see him and he was admitted at the Kuje Medical Centre where they are treating him. I left there a few hours ago. The thing happened before I arrived, but we heard about it when we got there around 12.
“As one of his lawyers and colleagues, I insisted on seeing him, and they took me to where he was. I also saw Sowore and others before they took me to see him.”
Ejimakor’s collapse occurred barely 24 hours after the presiding judge of the Kuje Magistrate Court, Abubakar Umar Sai’id, reportedly declined to sign the bail bond for his release.
It was not immediately clear what triggered his health emergency, but sources close to Kanu’s legal team expressed concern over the welfare of the detained lawyer.
Ejimakor, a key member of Kanu’s legal team, has been vocal in the ongoing legal and human rights battles surrounding the IPOB leader’s detention and trial.
Efforts to get an official response from the Nigerian Correctional Service on the incident were unsuccessful as of press time.
