Several notorious bandit leaders responsible for terrorizing Batsari, Safana, and Jibia local government areas of Katsina State have reportedly surrendered to the Nigerian Army, handing over their weapons and releasing abducted hostages.
The bandits, identified as Abu Radda, Umar Black, Abdullahi Lankai, Jijjige, and Dabar Musa Dan Gandu, were known to operate from the Jibia axis.
According to a report by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, their surrender followed sustained military operations in the region.
Security sources quoted by the publication stated that the bandits embraced a peace deal and sought government intervention to provide them with alternative means of livelihood.
The former outlaws specifically requested engagement in the construction of markets and hospitals as a means of reintegrating into society.
Their surrender was reportedly facilitated by the National Community for Security and Societal Advancement in Katsina (NCSOSACK), led by Hamisa Batsari.
This development comes amid broader efforts by Nigerian security forces to curb insurgency and banditry.
On Monday, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced that 800 former Boko Haram fighters who had surrendered were undergoing deradicalization in preparation for reintegration into society.
