Several kidnap victims have bravely escaped from captivity in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria.
The victims, who had endured harrowing conditions including days without food, were received on Thursday by the Chairman of Ukum Local Government, Jonathan Modi, in Zaki Biam.
According to a statement from Samuel Atsua, the Special Assistant on Media & Communications to the Chairman, the victims, who are indigenes of Ukum, disclosed that they were abducted on December 27th.
Upon their escape, they were immediately transferred to a hospital for urgent medical attention due to their fragile health conditions.
Chairman Jonathan Modi expressed deep concern for the victims’ well-being and condemned the actions of their abductors.
He emphasized the need for peace and unity among the people of Ukum, echoing the initiatives of Governor Hyacinth Alia and Most Rev. Fr. Isaac Dugu, Bishop of Katsina-Ala Diocese.
“It is deeply condemnable that, despite ongoing peace efforts, some individuals continue to inflict pain on their own people—mothers, fathers, and brothers,” Chairman Modi remarked sternly.
He warned perpetrators of such heinous acts to desist, emphasizing that both legal consequences and divine justice await those who persist in violence.
Modi reaffirmed his commitment to restoring peace and security in Ukum, calling upon all residents to unite in the fight against criminality.
The escape of these victims serves as a beacon of hope amidst challenging times, highlighting both resilience and the ongoing efforts to combat crime in Benue State.
