The wife and son of a prominent petrol dealer in Kwara State, Alhaji Abass, popularly known as Daniyan Saba, have reportedly escaped from their abductors days after they were kidnapped by gunmen in Edu Local Government Area of the state.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the victims were abducted in the early hours of Saturday when heavily armed men stormed Ndeji community in the Lafiagi Emirate, causing panic among residents before whisking the woman and her child to an unknown destination.
Sources in the area said the incident threw the community into fear as residents fled their homes during the attack.
However, the victims were later discovered in Oreke community after reportedly escaping from their captors.
Confirming the development, a vigilante commander in Gbugbu, Gina Muhammad, said the woman and her child regained their freedom while the kidnappers were attempting to move them across the Kogi highway.
“We learnt it was while the kidnappers were trying to take them across the Kogi highway that they escaped,” Muhammad told journalists.
He added that it was still unclear whether any ransom was paid before the victims regained their freedom.
The latest incident comes barely weeks after the petrol dealer himself was abducted by bandits in the area.
Abass had earlier recounted that he and his manager, Mallam Abubakar Issa, spent more than a month in captivity before regaining freedom after a ransom of N105 million was paid to the kidnappers.
The recurring attacks have heightened concerns among residents of communities in Edu Local Government Area, who have repeatedly raised alarm over growing insecurity and frequent kidnappings in the axis.
