The King Kosoko Royal Family has formally declared veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Prince Jide Kosoko, as the Oloja of Lagos-elect.
The announcement was made on Wednesday at the King Kosoko Palace in Ereko, Lagos Island.
The 72-year-old thespian was presented before royal family members, chiefs, supporters and well-wishers in a solemn ceremony.
Kosoko, a prince (Omoba) of the historic Kosoko royal lineage, is a direct descendant of King Kosoko, the 10th Oba of Lagos and the first Oloja of Lagos, making him eligible for the revered traditional stool.
Speaking at the event, leaders of the royal family said the declaration followed consultations within the ruling house and traditional stakeholders, noting that Kosoko’s character, public service record and longstanding contribution to society informed the decision.
They described him as a bridge-builder whose influence in the arts and culture sector has helped project Lagos and Nigeria globally, adding that his emergence marked a significant moment in the history of the Kosoko dynasty.
In his brief remarks, Kosoko expressed gratitude to the royal family for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to uphold the traditions of his forebears and promote unity, peace and development within Lagos.
The veteran actor, who has spent over five decades in the Nigerian film and television industry, is one of Nollywood’s most recognisable faces, featuring in hundreds of productions and mentoring several younger artistes.
