Kogi Government Queries Traditional Ruler Over Alleged Partisan Role Leading To Political Violence

The Kogi State government has issued a query to Alhaji Abdulrasaq Gambo Isa Koto, the Ohimege-Igu Kotonkarfe, over accusations of partisanship and failure to maintain peace during a visit by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Alhaji Muritala Ajaka.

The query, dated November 22 and signed by Barrister Salami Deedat, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, expressed grave concern over the traditional ruler’s alleged involvement in partisan politics, which purportedly resulted in a political crisis leading to the unfortunate death of a young lady in Koto-Karfe.

The letter emphasized the contradiction of the traditional ruler’s actions with the expected role of a revered Royal Father, stating, “This blatant action of yours is a sad contradiction of your expected role as a revered Royal Father of your status.

It is more worrisome that you acted unbothered when the much coveted peace and security of the State was being threatened by your action.”

Sources within the state suggest that the government’s action may be an attempt to redirect blame onto the traditional ruler for the poor performance of the APC in Koto, his local council.

The state government has given Alhaji Abdulrasaq Gambo Isa Koto 48 hours to provide a written explanation for his actions, with the possibility of an oral explanation during a panel examination.

In October, the SDP’s campaign council denied allegations of involvement in the killing of a woman in Konto-Nkarfe, blaming  the ruling All Progressive Congress  thugs for the incident.

Alhaji Hassan Enape, the state leader of the SDP, refuted claims that the party’s governorship candidate, Muritala Ajaka, was moving around with thugs in police uniforms, emphasizing the legitimacy of their security personnel assigned by the Inspector General of Police.
