Kwankwaso Alleges Lopsided Development, Accuses Tinubu Govt Of Marginalising Northern Nigeria

Former Kano State Governor and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of marginalising the northern region in the allocation of national resources.

Kwankwaso, speaking at the Kano State Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the 2025 Constitutional Amendment on Thursday, warned that the continued neglect of the North could worsen poverty and insecurity in the region.

He expressed concern over what he described as the skewed distribution of federal resources, alleging that the current administration was prioritising projects in the South to the detriment of the North.

“From available information, it appears that the national budget is now tilting heavily in one direction,” Kwankwaso said. “This level of imbalance is unacceptable. It is contributing to the deepening of poverty and insecurity in the North.”

The former Defence Minister lamented the poor state of infrastructure across northern Nigeria, citing the dilapidated Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway as a glaring example of government neglect.

“Yesterday, I was supposed to travel by air, but my flight was delayed. I had to come by road. The journey from Abuja to Kano was a nightmare. That road has been under construction since the APC came into power,” he stated.

While acknowledging the need for development across the country, Kwankwaso stressed the importance of equitable distribution of federal projects and resources.

“We support development in all parts of the country, but it must not be one-sided. A situation where our commonwealth is being concentrated in one region is not only unjust but also dangerous for national unity,” he warned.

He called on the Tinubu-led government to urgently adopt a more inclusive approach to governance, adding that national cohesion would only be sustained if all regions were treated fairly.

“This is the time for the government to correct the imbalance and convince Nigerians that it represents all regions equally,” Kwankwaso concluded.
