In a coordinated display of courage and vigilance, youths in Lade and Dakani communities of Patigi Local Government Area, Kwara State, have arrested seven suspected bandits believed to be terrorising parts of the state.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that three of the suspects were apprehended while attempting to purchase fuel in Lade, raising suspicion among residents.
The remaining four were later tracked down and captured in a bush in the neighbouring Dakani community, where they reportedly hid weapons inside a sack.
The suspects were subsequently handed over to personnel of the Nigerian Army in Patigi for interrogation and further investigation.
Confirming the development, a community leader who spoke on condition of anonymity commended the youths for their bravery and swift action, saying their vigilance prevented what could have been another tragic attack.
“The youths have shown great courage. They noticed the strangers’ suspicious movements and acted fast. We are happy they were handed over to security agencies instead of taking laws into their own hands,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government has praised the communities for their cooperation with security agencies.
It reiterated its commitment to sustaining peace and intensifying joint security operations involving the Nigerian Army, police, and local vigilante groups across the state.
A statement from the government emphasised that community intelligence remains critical in the ongoing fight against banditry and other forms of insecurity threatening rural areas of the state.
