In a surprising turn of events, the Kwara State Garment Factory had to close its recently opened job application portal intended for hiring 300 production workers.

The shutdown came as the factory received an astounding 8,373 applications within just 48 hours, surpassing expectations.

The management of the new government-owned company, as stated in a release from the Government House, expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming response, emphasizing the enthusiasm shown by the public to work with them.

Despite the excitement, they found it necessary to close the portal earlier than planned due to the unexpectedly high volume of applications.

“We received no less than 8,373 applications within the first 48 hours of opening the portal. That was impressive! We have, therefore, shut the portal to allow for thorough and professional screening of the applications already submitted,” the statement explained.

Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq, highlighted that the garment factory is part of the Governor’s projects scheduled for take-off in the first quarter of 2024.

This development comes at a crucial time as Nigeria grapples with a 4.1% unemployment rate, according to the National Bureau of Statistics’ data from August last year.
