Tension has enveloped parts of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, following the gruesome murder of a female police prosecutor who was abducted by unknown assailants and later found dead.
The victim, identified as a Woman Inspector attached to the Ogidi Police Division, was reportedly kidnapped on Thursday and her body discovered in a bush in the Oloje area of Ilorin on Friday morning.
Sources within the police command said that the deceased, who served as a prosecutor at the division, was ambushed by her abductors while returning home.
A distressing video showing her lifeless body in the bush has since surfaced on social media, sparking outrage and fear across the community.
Although the motive behind the abduction and killing remains unclear, residents have expressed deep concern over the rising wave of insecurity in the state, particularly in Ilorin and its environs.
“This is heartbreaking. She was well-known in the community and dedicated to her job. Nobody is safe anymore,” said a resident who pleaded anonymity.
The Kwara State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement as of press time, but a senior officer confirmed that an investigation had commenced to track down those responsible for the attack.
The incident comes amid a surge in violent crimes across the state. On Thursday, gunmen reportedly invaded Idofin Odo-Ase in the Oke Ero Local Government Area, killing three people and forcing residents to flee their homes.
In a related attack, bandits also stormed Efagi village in the Edu Local Government Area in the early hours of Friday, abducting a couple and injuring a vigilante. Soldiers deployed to the area later rescued the woman, though her husband remains missing.
Residents across several Kwara communities have called on security agencies and the state government to intensify patrols and curb the rising insecurity that has left many living in fear.
“The government must act fast before things get out of hand,” another resident said. “If a police officer can be kidnapped and killed like this, what hope do ordinary citizens have?”
As investigations continue, the tragic death of the female officer has thrown the police community in Kwara into mourning, with colleagues describing her as “diligent, fearless, and committed to justice.”
