A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Adamu Saba, has raised the alarm over the worsening security situation in his constituency, calling on President Bola Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and security agencies to urgently intervene to stem the tide of kidnappings and banditry.
Saba, who represents Edu, Moro, and Patigi federal constituency of Kwara State, expressed deep concern over recent attacks in the area, which he said have left residents traumatised and living in fear.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Assistant on Digital Media, Bello Hamidu, the lawmaker described the security challenges as “unacceptable”, lamenting the killing of a cattle rearer in Tashagi and the abduction of his five children. He also cited the recent kidnapping of a businessman and his manager in Gbugbu community.
“The victims have been in captivity for over two weeks, and the abductors have not only refused to release them but have also increased their ransom demands while threatening to harm them,” he said.
According to the lawmaker, farming and other economic activities have been severely disrupted as fear grips the communities.
“My people can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed,” Saba said. “Going to the farm has become a nightmare, and conducting legitimate businesses is now a dangerous venture.”
He described the attacks as “inhuman and criminal”, calling for immediate and decisive action from the federal and state governments, as well as the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
“I appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our hardworking Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the efficient Inspector General of Police to urgently come to our rescue. The situation in my constituency is dire,” Saba pleaded.
The lawmaker sympathized with affected families and reassured constituents of his commitment to working with relevant authorities to restore peace and ensure the protection of lives and property.
He urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, expressing optimism that the current wave of insecurity would soon be brought under control.
