Labour Party Rejects Ogun LG Election Results, Alleges Rigging, Vows Legal Action

As the results of the local government election started to trickle in, the Ogun State Labour Party has outrightly rejected the results of the election conducted in the state on Saturday, alleging gross irregularities and disenfranchisement of voters.
Addressing journalists at an emergency press conference in Abeokuta, on Saturday, the state chairman of the Labour Party, Engr. Lookman Jagun, described the election as a “sham” orchestrated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in collaboration with the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC).
PLATFORM TIMES reports that there were complaints of both late arrival of electoral materials and outright absence of the officials in many polling units across the state.
PLATFORM TIMES which went round some poling units in the state observed that the officials of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission were nowhere to be found in many polling units while few others started election process four hours after the stipulated time (8:am).
Many voters who expressed disappointment over the absence and Kate arrival of the officials to the polling units in the state, called for extension of the election time.
Speaking on the development, Jagun, who had previously raised concerns about potential rigging during the flag-off of the party’s campaign on October 31, 2024, accused OGSIEC Chairman Babatunde Osibodu of failing to ensure a credible election.
“There was no election whatsoever in virtually all the polling units in Ogun state,” Jagun declared.
“OGSIEC officials were nowhere to be seen in over 90 percent of the polling units, and election materials were absent as of 1:30 pm.
“In the few places where materials arrived, they were incomplete and delivered hours behind schedule.”
The Labour Party leader lamented the ordeal of supporters who turned out en masse to vote but were left disappointed by the absence of election officials and materials.
In some locations where voting materials were delivered, party supporters were allegedly assaulted and chased away by thugs.
Jagun criticized Governor Dapo Abiodun, accusing him of boasting about the APC’s dominance and orchestrating what he termed a “crude and barbaric rigging process.”
“Ogun state is the Gateway State, and we expect better from OGSIEC,” he said.
The Labour Party rejected any results declared by OGSIEC and demanded the immediate cancellation of the entire election for violating electoral guidelines.
Jagun warned that the party would take legal action if its demands were ignored.
“We will put the necessary machinery in motion to challenge this charade in court,” he vowed.
He called on the people of Ogun State to stand firm in their demand for credible governance, stressing that the reported disenfranchisement reflected widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration.
