The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has urged the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, to intensify his efforts at fostering unity and peace among traditional rulers across Yorubaland.
Ladoja made the call on Sunday while hosting the Ooni at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Describing the Ife monarch as a “great unifier,” the former governor said the Ooni’s leadership style had promoted harmony not only among Yoruba traditional rulers but also within the wider Yoruba nation.
He further tasked Mogajis (family and compound heads) in Ibadan to emulate the Ooni by ensuring peaceful coexistence within their domains, stressing that they would henceforth be held responsible for the misconduct of their family members.
“My experience as a senator, governor and businessman is not enough to rule as Olubadan. I am ready to learn from the Ooni of Ife, who has spent 10 years on the throne, and to work with other traditional rulers for the progress of Yorubaland,” Ladoja said.
He also commended the Ooni for his youth-focused investments, which he said had created jobs and reduced crime among young people.
In his remarks, Oba Ogunwusi praised Ladoja’s wealth of political and business experience, describing it as a valuable asset that would bring “unprecedented progress to Ibadanland.”
“We have come a long way together. Today is not an ordinary day because it coincides with the beginning of our Olojo Festival seclusion, yet I sought ancestral permission to be here to show love and support. We must continue to rally around ourselves to ensure unity in Yorubaland. I wish him long life and a peaceful reign,” the Ooni stated.
