Lafarge Africa Plc has expanded its footprint in Lagos with the commissioning of a new state-of-the-art ReadyMix facility, tagged the Freedom Plant, in Lekki.
The plant, launched on August 20, 2025, is equipped with an automated batching system that allows remote management and real-time data transfer from anywhere in the world. Company executives say the innovation will not only improve production efficiency but also strengthen Lafarge’s push for sustainable and eco-friendly building solutions in Nigeria.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Group Managing Director/CEO of Lafarge Africa, Mr. Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, said the investment aligns with the firm’s commitment to “building progress for people and the planet.”
“This facility is not just about expanding our production capacity, but also about deepening innovation, driving sustainability, and empowering Nigerians through job creation and skills development,” he said.
Alade-Akinyemi stressed that the Freedom Plant will meet Nigeria’s rising demand for quality building materials while promoting local sourcing to reduce reliance on imports.
On his part, Mr. Derek Williamson, Head of Aggregates and ReadyMix at Lafarge Africa, described the plant as a “strategic game-changer” for the company’s operations in Lagos.
According to him, the facility, which boasts three storage silos capable of holding cementitious material for over two days of uninterrupted production, will significantly boost supply chain efficiency.
“Freedom Plant will not only serve customers within a 5-kilometre radius but also support our existing plants in Oniru and Lekki Phase 2. It enhances our capacity to roll out innovative products like EcoCrete, alongside our full range of ReadyMix solutions,” Williamson said.
The commissioning drew government officials, industry stakeholders, partners, and customers who lauded Lafarge Africa’s role in powering Nigeria’s infrastructure growth.
With operations spread across Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ogun, Cross River, and Gombe States, Lafarge Africa remains one of the country’s biggest players in cement and building solutions, with an installed cement production capacity of 10.5 million tonnes per annum.
