A Lagos-based medical practitioner, Dr. Femi Olaleye, has reportedly absconded to the United Kingdom following a series of legal maneuvers and accusations stemming from a high-profile sexual assault case.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that originally sentenced to life imprisonment in 2023 by a Lagos Sexual Offences Court for defilement and sexual violence against a minor, Olaleye’s conviction was recently overturned by the Court of Appeal in November 2024, sparking controversy and renewed legal actions.
According to reports from the Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence, Dr. Olaleye’s escape coincided with the Lagos State Government’s decision to appeal his acquittal at the Supreme Court.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that Gbenga Soloki, Executive Director of the organization, revealed that the doctor fled upon learning of the impending appeal, seeking refuge in the UK to evade further judicial scrutiny.
In a statement released on Friday, Soloki accused Olaleye of launching a media campaign against his estranged wife, judiciary officials, and law enforcement agencies, alleging bias in handling his case.
Despite his legal representation withdrawing from further proceedings at the Supreme Court, Olaleye allegedly distanced himself from ongoing legal obligations, claiming relocation and disowning his previous contacts in Nigeria.
Furthermore, Soloki dismissed Olaleye’s claims of victimization and property disputes, asserting ongoing legal proceedings over the family home in question.
.
He labeled Olaleye a “serial pedophile,” referencing past allegations of sexual misconduct during his tenure in the United Kingdom before relocating to Nigeria.
