The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, to investigate allegations of murder levelled against the Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor.
The directive followed mounting public outrage and renewed claims circulating on social media, where some individuals accused the cleric of involvement in murder, amid an ongoing sexual misconduct scandal that has dominated public discourse in recent weeks.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the police order came despite the absence of a formal petition from any of the alleged victims.
Confirming the development on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, said the commissioner instructed the SCID to invite the pastor for questioning to ascertain the veracity of the claims.
“The CP has directed the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, even though no formal complaint has been lodged,” Adebisi said.
She added that the police had also been mandated to identify and invite witnesses to make statements that could aid the investigation.
Adebisi disclosed that, on her personal initiative, she contacted one of the YouTubers who interviewed persons making the murder allegations, requesting direct links to the alleged witnesses.
The police action marks a shift from the command’s earlier position.
On Friday, Adebisi had said Okafor could not be arrested because no official complaint had been submitted by any alleged victim, noting that the police were unaware of any formal allegation beyond social media claims.
The embattled cleric has been at the centre of controversy since mid-December 2025, following allegations by Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, who accused him of a prolonged sexual relationship, manipulation and emotional abuse.
Ogala had alleged that the relationship, which reportedly began in 2017, lasted about nine years, during which the pastor repeatedly promised to marry her before eventually wedding another woman, identified as Pearl, on December 16, 2025.
As the allegations escalated, Pastor Okafor announced his decision to step aside from pastoral duties on New Year’s Day.
Last Sunday, he publicly apologised to Ogala during a church service, kneeling on the pulpit and admitting to making “mistakes,” while asking for forgiveness.
In a series of emotional videos posted on Instagram, Ogala also accused the pastor of sharing her explicit photos and videos, contributing to the collapse of her previous marriage, and causing her emotional and financial distress.
She further claimed that Okafor sent her $10,000 to withdraw her allegations and accuse a rival pastor of masterminding the scandal.
Through her lawyers, the actress later demanded N1bn in damages, alleging threats and intimidation following her arrest and detention by the police.
Other women have since come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct, manipulation and infidelity against the cleric. His former wife, Bessem Okafor, also accused him of infidelity, deception and physical assault.
However, some members of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries have dismissed the claims, describing them as attempts to blackmail and extort money from their pastor.
