The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh, has declared that Pastor Paul Adefarasin, the Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, committed a criminal offence by pointing a stun gun at a TikTok content creator.
Jimoh made the statement on Thursday while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme. He referenced a viral incident involving the popular cleric and a social media influencer known for filming luxury cars in Lagos traffic.
In early June, a video surfaced online showing Adefarasin pointing what appeared to be a handgun at the TikToker while seated in a vehicle.
The clip sparked widespread outrage and speculation, with many Nigerians questioning whether the pastor was brandishing a real firearm.
Although Adefarasin later denied the weapon was real or that it was pointed at anyone, the police launched an investigation. He was invited for questioning by the Ogun State Police Command and later released.
However, speaking on the legality of the incident, CP Jimoh clarified that under Nigerian law, even the display of a replica weapon could constitute a criminal offence.
“Nothing is an offence unless defined by law,” Jimoh said. “But under the Firearms Act, if you fashion any object to resemble a firearm and use it in a threatening manner, that could amount to armed robbery.
“Pointing a stun gun at an individual and creating fear or intimidation is an offence. The act itself, depending on the circumstances, can fall under assault or threat.”
Adefarasin, in his church’s internal communication, maintained that the item was a stun device and insisted he never intended harm.
Despite public criticism, the pastor has not been formally charged. However, the police say investigations are ongoing and that the matter remains under review.
The incident has continued to spark debate online about the responsibilities of public figures, the misuse of self-defense tools, and the implications of perceived threats in public spaces.
