Ridwan Jamiu, the Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque in Lagos, has called on President Bola Tinubu to remain steadfast in his commitment to accountability before God and responsibility to Nigerians.
During a sermon delivered on Friday at a Jumah prayer service attended by the President, the imam praised Tinubu’s leadership while urging him to uphold the principles of justice and service.
Bayo Onanuga, the President’s spokesperson, shared the imam’s remarks in a statement, emphasizing the high expectations placed on Tinubu’s administration.
“We are proud of you. I remember that we encouraged people to vote for you during the campaigns. We thank God that you have not disappointed us,” Onanuga quoted the imam as saying.
He continued: “We know you are capable. We know you have the sagacity. We know you are competent. We believe and pray that you are not going to disappoint us. May Allah continue to be with you.
“Allah has entrusted Nigeria to you and will ask you for this trust. Remember accountability and responsibility to the people. Responsibility is to the people, and accountability is to Allah when you return to Him.
“You bear one of the names of Prophet Muhammad, Ahmed, someone who does what is praiseworthy. This name has been reflected in your past actions, and we hope it will reflect in your actions now.”
The President arrived in Lagos on December 18 to spend the festive season, shortly after presenting the 2025 budget to the National Assembly.
In a gesture of respect for victims of recent stampedes in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory, Tinubu cancelled all public engagements last Saturday, including a boat regatta in Lagos.
On December 23, he hosted his first presidential media chat at his Ikoyi residence, where he addressed pressing national issues. Tinubu has also been receiving private visitors as part of his holiday activities.
