Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has ignited a controversial debate by contrasting the achievements of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, with those  of the Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government Area in Lagos State.

In an interview on the ‘Mic On Podcast’ programme hosted by Channels Television’s Seun Okinbaloye, Omokri asserted the superior administration of the Lagos LG chair over Obi, despite the latter’s tenure as governor from June 2007 to March 2014.

Omokri  stated, “The Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government Area in Lagos State has more achievements in governance than Peter Obi.”

He specifically cited the construction of three schools by the Lagos LG chair, challenging Obi’s supporters to name a single school initiated, completed, and inaugurated by the former Anambra governor during his eight years in office.

The social media influencer’s remarks come amidst political tensions and speculations surrounding Obi’s political trajectory, including his unsuccessful bid as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election.

Omokri revealed his pivotal role in recommending Obi to Abubakar for the vice-presidential slot, emphasizing Obi’s suitability for the position at the time.

However, Omokri expressed disappointment in Obi’s decision not to heed his advice, alleging that Obi’s subsequent bid for the presidency in the 2023 election would only serve to split the Peoples Democratic Party votes and potentially benefit Bola Tinubu.

He criticized Obi’s qualifications and achievements compared to political heavyweights like Tinubu and Abubakar.

Despite facing criticism for commenting on the nation’s economic challenges while residing outside the country, Omokri defended his perspective, highlighting his role as an employer of labour in Nigeria
