Lagos Man Faces Charges For Allegedly Raping , Forcing Abortion Pills On 20-Year-Old Woman

A 32-year-old unemployed man, Akinpelumi Temitope, has been brought before a Magistrate court in Lagos, facing accusations of raping a 20-year-old woman and coercing her into taking birth control pills.

Temitope, whose address remains undisclosed, has been charged by the police with rape and a felony, specifically an attempt to induce abortion.

According to the Prosecution Counsel, Mrs. Olawunmi Osibanjo, the incident occurred on July 31 in the Igbo-Olomu Estate area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Temitope allegedly gained entry to the woman’s apartment, where he sexually assaulted her and compelled her to consume an excessive quantity of pills.

The victim, who had recently completed her one-year National Youth Service, was visiting her sister residing in the estate at the time of the incident.

The sister promptly reported the case to the police, leading to Temitope’s arrest.

The police have cited that the charges brought against Temitope violate the stipulations outlined in sections 260 and 145(2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015).

During the court proceedings, Chief Magistrate A. B. Olagbegi-Adelabu opted not to take Temitope’s plea and instead referred the case file to the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal guidance.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for September 14 for further proceedings.
