In a proactive move to prevent potential building collapses in 2024, the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) disclosed that it sealed more than 700 buildings across the state for various contraventions in 2023.
Leading an enforcement team through Ikeja Local Government area, Mr. Kehinde Osinaike, the General Manager of LASPPPA, emphasized the importance of curbing physical planning infractions to align with the state’s vision for well-planned urban development.
Osinaike acknowledged the commitment of the state government to the sustainable growth of Lagos, emphasizing the need for a well-organized urban environment for the benefit of all residents.
Highlighting the enforcement efforts, Osinaike mentioned that some developers continued illegal construction, prompting early measures in 2024.
In 2023, over 700 buildings were sealed, with many subsequently regularizing their papers after meeting requirements.
Commending residents who voluntarily complied in 2023, Osinaike appealed to developers and property owners to embrace a change in behavior for the safety of lives and investments, fostering an orderly environment.
He urged Lagos residents to consult LASPPPA district offices before land purchase or property development, emphasizing the availability of 50 district offices across the state and plans for additional ones.
Osinaike reassured the public of faster planning permit processes, with approvals granted within 10 days due to reforms and innovations by the authority.
Encouraging residents to seek guidance from town planning offices, he stressed the importance of understanding the approvability of properties and obtaining advice on encroachments.
