The newly-appointed Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, and Minister of State for the Ministry, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, have assumed their roles with a steadfast commitment to ensuring decent work conditions and fair remuneration for workers across Nigeria.

Addressing the heads of agencies in Abuja shortly after their inauguration, Lalong articulated his administration’s dedication to guaranteeing that workers receive fair value for their contributions and operate within safe and conducive environments.

The former Governor of Plateau State underscored the ministry’s intention to work in close partnership with Organised Labour and their affiliates to resolve pending industrial disputes in a harmonious manner.

Lalong emphasized the strategic deployment of technology, skill acquisition, entrepreneurship, and agriculture to stimulate greater employment opportunities for all citizens.

Furthermore, he promised enhanced collaboration with the private sector, development partners, international agencies, and others to significantly curb the rates of unemployment and underemployment.

“This is a call to service, and we are committed to giving our utmost to support President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in realizing their Renewed Hope Agenda for a better Nigeria.

The Nigerian people have placed their trust in our leadership, and we are dedicated to building a nation where their dreams and aspirations come to fruition,” Minister Lalong affirmed.

He stressed the immense importance of the Labour and Employment portfolio in achieving national development and prosperity. Recognizing the magnitude of the task at hand,

Lalong expressed confidence in Nigeria’s abundant human resources and called for collective support and understanding to achieve the set objectives.

Lalong outlined his vision to ensure decent work opportunities for all Nigerians and to harness the energy, creativity, talent, and potential of youth and women to contribute to the nation’s advancement.

He pledged to consolidate efforts across various government agencies and sectors of the economy in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Our workers deserve to be fairly rewarded for their labor and operate within secure and enabling environments.

Given the challenges of unemployment and underemployment, we have been directed by President Tinubu to prioritize providing Nigerians with decent employment opportunities and just compensation in both public and private sectors.

We are resolute in safeguarding the dignity of the Nigerian worker at all times,” Minister Lalong asserted.

He reaffirmed that the government takes its responsibility seriously and is actively engaged in negotiations to arrive at resolutions that alleviate the hardships faced by workers.

Lalong emphasized that comprehensive plans aligned with President Tinubu’s vision for Labour and Employment will be revealed in the coming weeks, detailing the roles of the Ministry, its agencies, development partners, and the Nigerian populace in its realization.

Engaging with relevant partners and stakeholders, Lalong’s administration aspires to elevate the Labour and Employment sector’s performance, aiming to uphold the rights and dignity of workers while fostering a conducive and progressive work environment.
