Veteran Yoruba actor, Fatai Odua, popularly known as Lalude, has lashed out at the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its loyalists, accusing them of using and abandoning Nollywood thespians after they campaigned for President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during the 2023 general elections.
In an emotionally charged outburst on the YouTube talk show Behind the Fame aired on Saturday, the actor, famed for his iconic roles as a herbalist in Yoruba movies, said he and several others were mobilised for political campaigns by APC chieftain, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, but were never paid for their efforts.
“We campaigned for Tinubu. We campaigned for Sanwo-Olu. Until this very moment, we have not been paid a dime. Is that good?” Lalude asked.
The actor expressed deep frustration, claiming that funds were released by the APC to compensate entertainers who supported the campaign but were allegedly cornered by unnamed individuals.
“All those behind our not being paid after working for one month and three weeks for Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu—they will never prosper or succeed in their lives till death,” he cursed, visibly agitated.
He specifically accused MC Oluomo of deception, saying the transport union leader promised him and fellow actor Alapini financial rewards that never materialised.
“It was MC Oluomo who invited us. He promised Alapini and me that whatever we demanded, he would give us.
“We did. But to date, we haven’t received a kobo. That debt they owe us for our work will not be forgiven. Curse will kill robbers,” he thundered.
Lalude’s comments have sparked fresh attention to the grievances of Yoruba actors who supported President Tinubu’s campaign.
Recently, another actor, Ganiu Nofiu, known as Alapini Osa, voiced similar frustration. Appearing on the same show, he disclosed that over 100 actors were mobilised with promises but were left disappointed.
“We campaigned with joy, believing our messiah had come. Tinubu helped actors before. That’s why we went all out. We worked for two months,” Alapini said. “But now, the public rains curses on us for supporting him.”
The development follows a controversial episode involving actor Ebun Oloyede, a.k.a. Olaiya Igwe, who was widely criticised after a viral video showed him praying naked at a beach for Tinubu’s victory.
In a recent interview, he pleaded with Nigerians to stop blaming him for the economic hardship under the current administration.
Similarly, actress Bukky Raji, also known as Aminatu Papapa, has publicly expressed regret for supporting Tinubu, apologising to Nigerians for her role in the campaign.
The growing chorus of discontent among Nollywood figures once aligned with the ruling party adds to mounting public criticism of the APC’s leadership, especially amid widespread economic hardship and perceived failure to deliver campaign promises.
As of press time, neither MC Oluomo nor the APC had responded to the allegations made by Lalude and others.
