LASTMA  Impounds 78 Trucks In Lagos

In a bid to ensure a smooth flow of traffic for Lagosians during the festive season and beyond, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) executed a decisive enforcement operation, impounding 78 containerised trucks around the Apapa and Ijora areas of the state.

The operation, led by the General Manager of LASTMA, Bakare Oki, took place early Sunday morning on top of High Bridge by Lilly Pond inward Apapa and Sifax axis of Ijora (Olopa).

Collaborating with relevant security agencies, LASTMA aimed to address the persistent issue of traffic congestion caused by indiscriminate parking and impediments in these critical areas.

The Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed in a statement that the enforcement operation occurred between 12 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Sunday.

The statement emphasized the continuous nature of the crackdown, signaling zero tolerance for obstructions in the mentioned axis.

Speaking on the operation, GM Bakare Oki urged motorists to actively participate in maintaining the flow of traffic by reporting any broken down or abandoned trailers/trucks promptly.

He encouraged the public to utilize LASTMA’s hotlines, including 08100565860, 08129928490, 08129928515, and 08129928593, to notify authorities of such incidents.

The Apapa/Ijora gridlock has been a long-standing concern affecting both residents and businesses in the area.
