Lawyer Urges Nigerians to Promote Positive Image Of Nigeria

A prominent lawyer and chartered accountant, Dr. Gbenga Adeoye, has urged Nigerians to embrace patriotism by avoiding negative remarks about the nation.

In a thought-provoking statement, Adeoye highlighted the importance of recognizing Nigeria’s numerous blessings and achievements instead of tarnishing its image through words and actions.

Drawing from Yoruba proverbs, Adeoye emphasized the significance of preserving the dignity of one’s homeland.

“If you rubbish your household, nobody will help you commend or praise them,” he said, adding that not every matter is meant for public discourse.

He expressed concern over the growing trend of Nigerians, both young and old, using social media to portray the country in a negative light.

According to him, such actions undermine the nation’s integrity, with some even referring to Nigeria as a “jungle.”

Adeoye pointed out several reasons Nigerians should take pride in their country, ranging from infrastructural development to cultural richness.

He cited examples of landmarks and projects across Nigeria, including ongoing road developments in Abuja under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike.

The lawyer also celebrated the nation’s vibrant lifestyle, from hosting grand parties every Saturday to having access to modern conveniences like ride-hailing services, mobile phones, and food delivery options.

He posed several rhetorical questions to challenge critics, asking if they had achieved milestones like education, marriage, property ownership, and business success within the country.

“This is the same country where many have built houses, gotten married, sent their children to school, and even traveled abroad using earnings from Nigeria,” he said.

Adeoye underscored Nigeria’s contributions to the world, listing notable figures across various fields who hail from the country.

He referenced spiritual leaders such as Apostle Babalola, business icons like Chief Moshood Abiola, and global sports stars like Jay-Jay Okocha.

In the arts, he celebrated musicians and actors who have put Nigeria on the global map, including Davido and Nollywood stars.

“Even you, the reader of this article, if you are a Nigerian, you are part of this greatness,” he said.

The lawyer urged Nigerians to refrain from actions that diminish the nation’s image, such as criticizing its judiciary, banking system, and professional sectors.

Instead, he called for a collective effort to build the country’s reputation by focusing on its strengths.

“This is a blessed country of men and women full of hope—a country of happy people,” Adeoye said.

He concluded with a plea for citizens to reject actions that make the world look down on Nigeria.

“Let us be proud of our country. God bless Nigeria. God bless Nigerians,” he affirmed.
