In a chilling revelation, a “repentant” Boko Haram member disclosed on Tuesday that Leah Sharibu, the forgotten schoolgirl from Yobe State, Nigeria, has been married to not one, but two Boko Haram leaders.
Among them is Ali Abdallah, now serving as the chief judge of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the Lake Chad basin.
Sharibu, a Christian girl, was among the 110 female students abducted on February 19, 2018, from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, by the Boko Haram terrorist group.
According to the ex-fighter, Sharibu’s first husband, Abdulrahman, was killed in an air raid, after which she remarried a top commander, Ali Abdallah. Sharibu bore two children from these marriages – a baby boy with Abdulrahman and a baby girl with Ali Abdallah.
Previously, on January 25, 2020, SaharaReporters revealed Sharibu’s forced marriage to a top Boko Haram commander, which resulted in the birth of her first child, a baby boy.
The report highlighted the coercion Sharibu faced to renounce her Christian faith and accept Islam before the marriage.
This recent disclosure adds another layer to Sharibu’s harrowing ordeal. Despite her continued captivity and forced conversions, Sharibu remains steadfast in her Christian faith, refusing to abandon her beliefs.
Speaking to SaharaReporters, the repentant terrorist shed light on the circumstances surrounding Sharibu’s captivity, citing ongoing communication with former compatriots still entrenched in terrorism.
He emphasized efforts to dissuade others from the extremist ideology, underscoring his personal journey away from terrorism after realizing its moral bankruptcy.
The repentant fighter’s account provides a glimpse into the complex dynamics within Boko Haram and the challenges faced by those ensnared in its web of violence and coercion.
