The Diocese of Lagos West has expressed deep concern over the poor  standards of education in Nigeria, claiming that  less than 20% of the population has access to qualitative education.

The  Diocese raised this issue among several others during this year synod held in Lagos while  assessing  the state of the nation.

A statement released stated that the  synod’s findings revealed  a distressing reality where a significant majority of Nigerians are deprived of quality education.

The statement read “this shocking statistic points to a severe educational crisis that demands immediate attention and urgent reforms.

“Furthermore, the Synod strongly condemned the eight-month strike by university lecturers in Nigeria, expressing their disappointment in the unfortunate situation that caused such a prolonged disruption in the academic calendar.

“The strike had a damaging impact on the education system, affecting the learning outcomes of students and exacerbating the already dire situation.

“To address this crisis, the Synod called for an improvement in the funding of education in Nigeria and urged the government to consider Public Private Partnerships.

“In addition to the educational concerns, the Synod also highlighted various other issues affecting the nation.”

The church also raised the  alarm over the serious hardship faced by average Nigerians due to poor economic policies.
