In  the lead-up to the November local government elections in Ogun State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Abeokuta South Local Government has reportedly  shortlisted three aspirants for the coveted chairmanship position.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that after a rigorous and competitive selection process, the party has  reportedly forwarded the names of Babatunde Adeluola, Ayo Shomide, and Akamo Sunday Oluwagbemiga to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for final consideration.
It was further gathered that the three candidates, all from Abeokuta South Constituency 2, emerged from a pool of over 23 aspirants who initially expressed interest in the race.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that other aspirants include the former Chairman of the council, Omolaja Ayodele Majekodunmi coudo not make the list due to the party’s  decision to focus on aspirants from Constituency.
Th  leadership was said to have described the decision  as a strategic move by the party’s leadership,  claiming that  Constituency 1 has produced several high-ranking political figures, including two ministers, a commissioner, the senatorial chairman, and the chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the National Sports Festival.
According to a source from the local government, the selection process was peaceful and transparent, marking it as one of the most orderly political runs in recent times for the area.
“This decision reflects the commitment of the APC leadership in Abeokuta South to ensuring fairness and balance in political representation,” the source noted.
The shortlisted aspirants, popularly known as Delu, Ay-Show, and Akamo, have garnered significant support from party faithfuls and stakeholders within the local government.
The announcement of the final candidate is now in the hands of Governor Abiodun, whose decision will determine who will represent the APC in the November council elections.
As anticipation builds around the governor’s choice, political observers and party loyalists alike are eager to see how the APC’s candidate will fare in the upcoming polls.
The eventual nominee is expected to lead the party’s charge in what promises to be a hotly contested local government election.
The selection of the chairmanship candidate is crucial for the APC, as Abeokuta South is one of the most politically strategic local governments in Ogun State.
