Look Beyond Arms Slaughtering, FIBAN Tells Nigerians

Daud Olatunji

In the midst of the celebration of Eid-Kabir, the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) has urged Nigerians to focus on the deeper significance of the festival rather than on the slaughtering of sacrificial rams.

This message was delivered by Comrade Taiwo Adebayo-Gold, the National President of FIBAN, in a press release issued on behalf of the association’s executive and entire membership.

Eid-Kabir, a pivotal moment in the Islamic lunar calendar, symbolizes the climax of the fifth pillar of Islam, Hajj.

Despite the economic challenges currently facing the nation, which have led to a surge in food prices and hindered many families from performing the traditional slaughtering, Adebayo-Gold encouraged Nigerians to see beyond these hardships.

“While it is true that this year’s celebration is marred by high costs, preventing many from partaking in the slaughtering of rams, this should be seen as an act of God,” Adebayo-Gold stated.

He emphasized the importance of reflecting on the essence of the festival, which includes themes of obedience and sacrifice as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah.

Adebayo-Gold also highlighted the unique convergence of Eid-Kabir with Sunday, a significant day of worship for Christians, and Father’s Day.

This overlap, he noted, serves as a reminder of the common values and unity shared by Nigerians, regardless of their religious beliefs.

In his message, Adebayo-Gold assured that FIBAN, under his leadership, will continue to uphold its role as a societal watchdog, focusing on the welfare of Nigerians.

He expressed optimism for better times ahead and called for celebrations to be conducted in moderation.

The press release, e-signed by Dr. Hellen Okon, National Vice President 1 of FIBAN, concluded with warm wishes for a memorable and joyous Eid-ul-Adha for all Nigerians.
