In a resolute declaration during his speech on Tuesday, Oyo State Governor, Dr Seyi Makinde, affirmed his administration’s determination to confront anyone contesting against the installation of Oba Afolabi Olaoye Ghandi as the Soun of Ogbomoso.
Governor Makinde passionately urged those entangled in legal battles to desist for the sake of Ogbomoso’s unity and the overall progress of Oyo State.
“So the people fighting, they should stop forthwith,” asserted the Governor. “But if they don’t stop or keep quiet, I, as the executive governor of Oyo State, am going to commit myself to the fight and I would fight to ensure peace and to ensure progress for Ogbomoso land.”
Emphasizing his commitment, Makinde hinted at employing the full force of the government to quell any opposition. “By ensuring that, anything government has in power to fight them, I’ll use to fight them.”
Addressing the ongoing legal disputes, the Governor acknowledged his lack of legal expertise but firmly stated that the contestation for the throne is a closed chapter.
“I am not a lawyer to know whether the court order is real or not, so, I wouldn’t know how true is what some people are saying, but this is what I’ll say: the contestation for the throne is behind us.”
Governor Makinde drew attention to a past incident in Oyo State where a similar dispute led to the removal of a king after two decades.
He underscored the negative consequences that befell both the ousted king and those responsible for his installation, pledging to prevent a recurrence in Ogbomoso.
The Governor appealed to those still pursuing legal action to withdraw their cases promptly, signaling a collective commitment to the well-being of Ogbomoso.
“And I am looking forward to those who are still in the court, withdrawing the court cases by, maybe the end of this week, as a show of love for Ogbomoso land.”
In a bid to fortify the traditional institution, Governor Makinde solicited support from Oba Ghandi Olaoye and other traditional rulers for a new authority known as the “Rule of Law Enforcement Authority,” currently under consideration by the state assembly.
The installation ceremony, adorned with the presence of traditional rulers, dignitaries, and government officials, culminated in the presentation of the certificate and staff of office to Oba Afolabi Olaoye Ghandi, signaling a new era for Ogbomoso.
